Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “ıvır zıvır sindirilebilirler”) tanılamamlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine rabıtalanmasıyla oluşan kısaltarak polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız lakırtııntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]

Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok skorda polipeptit madun birimi barındırır). Yapı taşı fark peptitlerin kısaltarak, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]

Protein sentezi esnasında her amino hamız, başka amino asite mütemadi, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle rabıtalanır. Polipeptid binasına zalimlan amino asitlerin her biri binaya peptid rabıtalarıyla rabıtalanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir su çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]

Vasati bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilindik en uzun polipeptit, ortalama 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda bulunan “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine zalimlan amino asitlere lakırtııntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lakırtııntı, bağ yapmamış, muaf amino grubu barındırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin başka ucundaki muaf α-karboksil grubu olan lakırtııntıya C ucu adı verilir.
